I bought my pillar candles at the dollar store and you can find vellum paper at office or craft supply stores.
1. Print out image of your choice onto vellum paper and cut out.
2. Use double-sided tape to adhere edges of the image onto the candle.
3. Cut out a piece of wax paper to fit around the candle.
4. Wrap wax paper around the candle (waxy side facing in) and use double-sided tape to hold ends down.
5. Heat with blow dryer (hold about 3in from candle) for 2-3 minutes.
6. Allow candle to cool, then remove wax paper.
A thin, waxy layer is now melted over your image which will keep it in place. Light and enjoy!

What a great DIY! Love the end result, so beautiful :)

ReplyDeleteCute! Seems like a fairly easy DIY. I agree, I tend to spend the money for the "holiday" candles and then don't end up using them more than once or twice!
ReplyDeleteThat's a really cool DIY for Halloween!!! Thanks Megan!

Megan, this is AWESOME! We have 3 candles sitting on our entertainment stand along with some pumpkins I painted and I'd love to make it even more festive with some halloween candles. I already have 95% of this stuff at home so I'm gonna try this this week! Where did you find the images you used for yours?

Love this idea! So fun, I love decorating for Halloween!
ReplyDeleteThese are so fantastic! I looked for black candles online forever before I gave up, since it just seemed so dumb to spend a lot on something if barely ever use. And these look so pro! Totally doing it.
ReplyDeleteI am so lazy! I never decorate. I don't even decorate for Christmas (Curtis does)! Isn't that terrible? However... I think this is an awesome idea, and I think I might see if I could scan some of Sean's abstract art work and transfer it on a candle. Curtis's mom would eat the sh*t up with a spoon! I really love the artwork you chose- super vintage and creepy!
ReplyDeleteOkay that is seriously such a great idea! I'm a candle freak and will need to add this to my growing DIY list :-)
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun way to spice up an ordinary candle :)
ReplyDeleteTrendy Teal
Yes Yes Yes! So easy! Love this idea! I hate spending too much money on holiday decorations too... All I bought were $2 placemats from Bed Bath and Beyond
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat idea! Pinning this for later! I want to try this with Christmas pictures!

This is such a great idea! I always ruin holiday candles because once I put them in the attic or in storage they wind up getting deformed from temperature changes. But, if I only spent $1, I wouldn't mind so much.

ReplyDeleteThanks! I just did Google image searches for vintage Halloween images and eventually found these. I didn't bookmark them unfortunately :( Just saved to my desktop and printed.
ReplyDeleteHaha, yes! Sean's artwork on one would be so cute. Just scan it in and print it on the paper - it would work perfectly.
